The Women’s Institute is a National Organisation which celebrated its centenary in 2015.
2017 was Datchworth’s 90th Year
We completed a commemorative quilt which was worked in Red Work embroidery. A number of our members completed at least 1 square and the quilt was assembled by Bev Jeffrey. This will again be exhibited at the Herts WI Autumn Council Meeting in Redbourn on 25th October We will continue to exhibit it at every opportunity.
The photo shows members who had contributed towards the quilt.
It is a very friendly WI. Our current membership is 47 and we welcome new members. Anyone in the village is welcome to come along as a visitor for at least 2 meetings before deciding to become a full member.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm in Datchworth Village Hall where we enjoy talks and demonstrations from our visiting speakers. For details of our previous meeting see the Parish
On 13th November 118 people attended The Bayeux Tapestry
Gary Fisher gave the audience a very informative illustrated talk about the Bayeux Tapestry describing the illustrations of events leading up to and including the Battle of Hastings in 1066 where William of Normandy defeated Harold. He gave us all the history in depth and pointed out the figures and actions depicted. After the talk he answered questions from the floor.
The evening concluded with a generous spread of cakes and savouries provided by members and guests were invited to browse the craft stalls and Fair Trade Stall at the rear of the hall.
